8 DOS AND DON’TS OF UNDERARM WAXING

ANY TYPE OF HAIR REMOVAL, INCLUDING ARMPIT HAIR IS A PERSONAL CHOICE. WHETHER IT’S FOR YOUR OWN PERSONAL PREFERENCE, AESTHETIC, OR HYGIENE – WE CAN AGREE, NEVERTHELESS, IT HAS BECOME AN EVERLASTING CHORE.

While shaving can sometimes feel like the easier option, it does require us to put aside time for maintenance and the results are not always smooth and how we’d like them to be. Tired of shaving your underarms every other day? Marzena has got you covered with our Natural and Sensitive Wax Strips range.

THE DOS OF UNDERARM WAXING

1. Do grow it out – don’t be shy!
Your armpit hair needs to be long enough for our wax strips to grip it (let’s say about the length of a grain of rice). This can take around 3-4 weeks from when you previously waxed or about a week from the last time you shaved. If your hair has grown out overtime – be sure its no longer than a ¼ inch before you begin to wax.

2. Do exfoliate your skin
Just like our hair removal creams, when using our wax strips, we recommend that you exfoliate your skin beforehand. This helps to remove any dead skin cells and is also a good way to aid in preventing ingrown hairs in the future. Your underarms are sensitive, so please be sure to exfoliate lightly to avoid any irritation to your skin.

3. Do prep before you wax – clean and dry your underarms
The first and very important step before you wax your armpits, is making sure you have a clean and dry base to work with. The wax will not stick and grip well to sweaty or sticky surfaces - clean the area with soap and water, then dry the skin completely before waxing.

4. Do know your hair
Underarm hair can grow both upwards and downwards so be sure you are working in sections. Divide your wax session in two sections, so that you have more control when applying the product. Focusing on one area at a time, hold your skin taut by lifting your elbow up, apply the wax in the same direction of the hair growth, then pull off in the opposite direction. Repeat on the second section.

5. Do aftercare – look after your skin
The Marzena Natural and Sensitive Wax Strips range include soothing aftercare wipes, these help to cool and sooth the skin and remove any wax residue. A good tip is to make sure to keep your skin moisturised after you have finished waxing – a fragrance free body lotion would be our recommendation.

THE DON’TS OF UNDERARM WAXING

1. Don’t wax sensitive skin
Avoid waxing if your underarms have a sunburn, rash, recent scar tissue, pimples, or other irritation. Always remember to do a patch test on a small area 24 hours before waxing. If you skin does tend to be on the sensitive side, we would recommend you give our Sensitive Wax Strips a try!

2. Don’t wax the same area twice
Waxing the same area of skin multiple times can cause irritation. Opt for tweezers to remove any stray underarm hairs you may have.

3. Don’t wear tight clothes
If your skin has been freshly waxed, to your best to avoid wearing any tight clothing. The rubbing from tight clothing can lead to irritation to your skin. Your skin needs to be able to breathe – be sure to wear something lose and comfortable!

4. Don’t use perfumed products for 24 hours
You don’t want to irritate your underarm hair follicles. To prevent this from happening, avoid using items with fragrance – this includes items like body sprays, deodorants, scrubs and self-tanner.
